The Reason Men Enjoy A Challenge

It all begins with a simple game of monopoly, could be with your buddies or your girlfriend and what happens, once things get rolling, all you’re thinking about is kicking some ass. You don’t see humans, you just see targets and all you want to do is Win.

Heck, you may even make your girlfriend feel like her parents should have abstained on that cold winters night. Why? Because we are mechanically built to enjoy a challenge.

Men are like bulls, we see a challenge and everyone around us are red, we want to ram our horns into them…let’s not make that sentence anymore perverted than it already is

This is actually pretty damn manly, have you ever noticed in movies the one guy who's at the top of the food chain in those dreaded high schools is the guy who loves to compete. He’s got all the girls tapping on their feet like tadpoles, not sure how tadpoles tap or whether they have feet but you get the point.

Loving a challenge is manly. You begin to display this aura of being someone who’s a go getter. People look at you and think, “Man this guy is insane, how does he do it, how does he keep doing all these impossible things?” That mindset of wanting a challenge makes you strive for more, makes you optimistic, makes you someone who wants to be the Best.

Aside from all the hunky dory sugar coated reasons I just mentioned…we get bored really fast. Your face has this ‘WTF’ look, probably giving yourself one of those, ‘pssht haha that’s not true, ha haha ha’ sort of moments but let’s face it, it’s true.

That is all good and well, if you haven’t been challenging yourself, now is the perfect time to start. It has a lot to do with your mindset as a man. Times are tough guys, you either go big or you go home and sometimes, if you don’t go big, there’s no more a ‘Home’.

It takes a lot to survive in this day and age, we may not be jumping around from trees like George did in the jungle but we’re hustling in the concrete jungle without any safety bars.

You fall, your brains are going to join the muck on the side of the pavement…I should apologize because I just slapped you with reality, lovingly of course.

Are there any downsides to loving a challenge? Unfortunately, YES! Here’s what happens:

  • We stop appreciating what we achieved thus far.
  • We become greedy and unsatisfied with even having the BEST.
  • We lose perspective, suddenly we have no idea what we want to achieve anymore.
  • We go through challenges, get amazing results and some odd day, we get bored and we SETTLE. That’s right, Settle.
  • We begin to turn into someone temperamental.
be a man, manliness, manly, be men, how to be a man, enjoy a challenge, the reason men enjoy a challenge

Take dearest old Mack, he’s married to his lovely wife Jen. At first he courted her, chased after her, enjoyed the CHALLENGE, got her, married her but somewhere along the line he never learnt how to appreciate one of his great accomplishments and ends up taking his wife for granted at times.

He spent so much time wanting this woman, gets her and afterwards doesn't appreciate her because she’s there all the time. He forgets just how special she is to him. Sounds familiar? I know some you just had a HOLY SHIT moment, if you did, that’s good, we're getting somewhere!

Notice that I kept saying WE in the points, I did this because I've been there. I have been there, done that, smelt that, ate that, shat that, okay you get the point.

I have been through this phase and I've seen the good and the bad.

I know what I’m talking about when I say you need to slow the hell down mate. Stop being in a race with yourself all the time.

You compete against yourself, you beat yourself but don't jeopardise yourself in the crossfire between your ego and your drive to succeed.

Have Limits. If anything, appreciate every challenge you punch in the face. Just let it have the appreciation from you that it deserves only then move on to the next challenge.

I’m not saying take a whole year or grow a beard in competition with Dumbledore. Simply Enjoy A Win! Keep in mind, we all want to be the best, ‘Want’ being the keyword, the key is accepting that we still have a lot of things to learn.

Here’s a challenge, Can You Be the Best Version of Yourself? (I bet some of you just Face Palmed yourself at this challenge, I know I did, damn it!
